What is HD TV?

HD TV or HD Television stands for "High Definition Television". It is the new improvement in digital television. It is a television broadcast medium that uses digital technology to create super-sharp images. HDTV is broadcast in widescreen format and Dolby Digital audio producing a lifelike picture and CD quality sound. It has one or two million pixels per frame, roughly five times that of traditional television systems (standard-definition TV, or SDTV, or SD). Some programs are made with home theatre-style 'surround sound'. HD broadcasts are especially suited to flat screen televisions like LCD TVs and Plasma TVs.

When buying an HD Ready TV, make sure it's marked 'HD Ready'. Note that an HD Ready TV will not turn a standard definition tv programme into an HD programme, you will only get the full detail of an HD picture if the programme is broadcast in HD and you have an HD service installed.
